MBDA UK Missile Systems Chooses Inmedius S1000Dtransition™
Technical Documentation Software Used To Publish Paper Manuals for Ministry of Defence

PITTSBURGH, PA, USA – October 7, 2005  Inmedius announced the purchase of S1000Dtransition™ by MBDA UK Missile Systems to support the creation and management of paper-based publications for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) project. Additionally, MBDA will utilize the software on future projects where a traditional paper manual is required from data produced in ASD S1000D™ data module format.

“Paper manuals are sometimes required to support projects where the infrastructure is not currently available to roll out full Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP),” explained Ian Proudfoot, Technical Director of Inmedius UK. “For reference and validation, S1000Dtransition also produces data in PDF format, efficiently supporting customers that may require both paper and electronic documentation. This significant Ministry of Defence project is an excellent pairing of MBDA UK Missile Systems and Inmedius’ expertise with military customers and the requirements of the task at hand.”

The Inmedius software program will be used to produce paper manuals for the MoD ASRAAM project; the most advanced of all air-to-air missiles specially designed for short range air combat. The missile will be installed on the Tornado F3, Harrier GR7 and the Eurofighter Typhoon of the Royal Air Force (RAF). The F/18 will be the first U.S. aircraft in operational service to be equipped with the ASRAAM.

MBDA UK chose the Inmedius software after a period of research into all products available in the market place that claimed to perform change page or LooseLeaf publishing from ASD S1000D™ data module format. S1000Dtransition was determined to be a very user friendly, customizable and efficient tool. A key selling point was the importance of familiarity to MBDA UK customers, as S1000Dtransition outputs are similar to the UK MoD paper standard -- which is exactly what MBDA customers want to see. The Inmedius software will also be utilized by MBDA as a vehicle to produce coherent data in PDF format, enabling engineers to view technical data modules online, without expensive licenses for IETP browsers.
