Inmedius–Global Leader in Operational Knowledge Management– Acquires Vektas, Adding End-to-End S1000D™ Capability
Company Continues Its European Expansion, and Now Offers S1000D™ Publishing Management Systems to Global Markets
PITTSBURGH, PA and PORTSMOUTH UK — June 15, 2004 Inmedius Inc., a pioneer in providing interactive operational performance management software solutions, today announced the acquisition of UK-based Vektas, a leading provider of technical authoring solutions. The combination of Inmedius’ operational knowledge management and workflow solutions and Vektas’ S1000D™ authoring tools now offers military, aviation, and corporations a single-source, end-to-end management system for creating, publishing, and deploying “front-line” technical documentation and operational knowledge management. Inmedius, with its global headquarters based in Pittsburgh, now has offices in the United Kingdom and Munich, Germany.
"The emerging S1000D™ standard represents the first major overhaul in the technical publishing world since the 1970s. What is called for is a set of integrated tools that can accelerate the acceptance of this new standard," said Mike Dressler, Director of Advisory Services of Collaborative Strategies. "With the Vektas acquisition, Inmedius is positioning itself to take an important step forward in delivering the first comprehensive solution set for the end-to-end creation, management, and delivery of S1000D™ content."
“Our acquisition of Vektas was a natural outcome of our desire to provide unrivaled S1000D™ expertise to global customers in addition to our other operational knowledge management capabilities,” said Gary L. Schaffer, President and CEO of Inmedius. “Vektas is a perfect fit for our corporate vision, which is to bring a fully integrated suite for creating and deploying the superior capabilities of the S1000D™ standard, as it is increasingly adopted by global players like NATO, Boeing, General Dynamics Canada, BAE Systems, Saab Military Aircraft, The Royal Navy, and Lockheed Martin.”
Vektas Ltd., based in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, will operate as Inmedius United Kingdom. Inmedius United Kingdom brings extensive knowledge and expertise in management of technical publications, especially in “best practices” and “best authoring processes” for ATA iSpec 2200 and S1000D™. Vektas’ new authoring tool will be renamed Inmedius AuthorPro, as part of Inmedius’ S1000D™ product suite. Vektas also brings unparalleled personnel expertise in the design and development of S1000D™ and ATA editing tools, including Mr. Ian Proudfoot (technical director for Vektas), an early creator of authoring and editing tools for S1000D™ and a widely recognized global expert. Also joining Inmedius is Michael Ingledew (operations director for Vektas), who started his technical authoring career on the Eurofighter Typhoon program with BAE Systems (LSE:BA.L).
S1000D™ has already been deployed for test applications sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Joint Strike Fighter development program, the F-117 and the Global Hawk unmanned drone now in use in Iraq. The broad adoption by all of the European Union and early adoption by North American-based global players such as Boeing (NYSE:BA), General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), and Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) indicate the growing acceptance of global standards for document management.
